It Is Jesus You Seek When You Dream of Happiness

Jesus You Seek When YouDream of Happiness

We live in a world of hopeless seekers, failing and trying again to fill that emptiness inside of them with everything but God. So many lost souls live their lives looking for the purpose of their lives desperately and the reason for their existence. These are the questions that have laid heavily on humanity’s heart for thousands of years, since the beginning of humanity’s existence. The most curious thing is that the answer to these questions stood in front of us all along, watching with desperate eyes trying to catch our attention. He stood patiently, dropping hints into our laps and watching us ignore them time and time again.

In every broken, lonely, desperate heart there lies a profound desire for God, the only one who can truly fill our longing. “For our hearts are restless until they rest in you,” says St. Augustine. The reason we are restless our entire lives, until we find God, is because we were made by him for him. The only way we can find the true meaning of our lives is to come outside ourselves and seek the Creator who thought of us and brought us into existence.

Hearing God’s Call

Every human being has heard that calling from God, whether they decide to ignore it, blow it off, deny it, or fully pursue the incessant longing inside of them to learn more. We all carry that desire for something greater, which brings us to longing to know the God who calls us, and this is possible through God’s revelation of himself.

He reveals himself to humanity in thousands of different ways – the quiet peace felt when a beautiful landscape fills your heart with hope, or the kindness reflected in a stranger’s face after a long day. The strength and courage in the testimony of another, or the realization that someone had to have created the universe we stand in. We are capable of witnessing these beautiful moments life offers and recognize them as a divine act of love from God because we are made in his image and likeness. His invitation is written in the deepest parts of our heart, and God never ceases to call us to himself.

He desires us as deeply as we need him, and he will never stop crying out for his loved ones who stray from him. Our purpose on this planet is to be loved, by the only one who can truly love even the brokenness in our soul, for that is what we were created for – love.

Why Do So Many Reject That Call?

Many stray away from the desire for love in their souls because they believe their sin makes them unlovable, and fear facing God without ever understanding his unending mercy. Rebellion against his laws, false testimonies of false prophets, bad notions of who God is, and incredulity of religion are obstacles humanity places within themself and God. Yet the strongest barrier that brings countless souls into despair is fear – fear of being rejected, fear of being abandoned, fear of not being enough.

But God doesn’t stop. He comes out of himself to reveal himself to humanity in ways our small minds can comprehend, even knowing that many will choose to leave him. Throughout history God has over and over proven his love for his children on earth, including giving his life upon the cross so that we might not suffer the death of being without him.

When We Dream of Happiness, We Dream of Jesus

For as St. John Paul II says, “It is Jesus that you seek when you dream of happiness; He is waiting for you when nothing else you find satisfies you; He is the beauty to which you are so attracted; it is He who provoked you with that thirst for fullness that will not let you settle for compromise; it is He who urges you to shed the masks of a false life; it is He who reads in your heart your most genuine choices, the choices that others try to stifle…

It is Jesus who stirs in you the desire to do something great with your lives.”

He reveals himself to us and gives us the choice. A choice to seek him, for he says “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart,” (Jeremiah 29:13). Will you say yes to his invitation, and embark on the journey to find that which your heart has been craving all along? Will you say yes to love, to happiness, to peace, to true belonging? Will you say yes to who you are meant to be?
